En-ROADS Climate Workshop

En-ROADS Climate Workshops aim to educate participants about climate change solutions and their impacts, give hope that climate change can indeed be limited, and encourage engagement in actions that will help the world rein in climate change.

En-ROADS (Energy-Rapid Overview and Decision-Support) is a global model based on the latest climate science that is used around the world by governments, businesses, universities, and the public. The MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative developed this model through a collaboration with the nonprofit energy think tank Climate Interactive. You can learn more information about En-ROADS herehttps://www.climateinteractive.org/

This Climate Workshop will engage participants in suggesting specific climate change interventions, such as incentivizing electric car use, expanding renewable energy capacity, implementing a carbon tax, planting more forests, etc., and then use En-ROADS to explore the potential benefits and impacts of these actions on the earth’s climate. We’ll explore which actions have substantial impacts and appreciate in what particular ways.

About the Speaker: Sam Allen is Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, where he worked up to his retirement in 2013. He lives in Portland, Maine and is an active member of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland. He became an En-ROADS Climate Ambassador in 2021.
