The South Portland Land Trust (SPLT), in cooperation with the South Portland Library, will be offering a three-session discussion of the book All We Can Save (One World, 2011), an anthology of essays and poems by women regarding Truth, Courage, and Solutions for Climate Change.

According to Chelsea Steinauer-Scudder, the group’s discussion leader, “I feel the most hopeful about the future when I see people working together for a common cause. This reading group is an exciting opportunity for the community to come together in an inclusive and open dialogue about climate change, and about how to be actively engaged in building a sustainable future."

Chelsea is a writer and editor based in Northern New England and the author of the forthcoming book, Mother, Creature, Kin (Broadleaf Books, 2005).

Tex Haeuser, SPLT President, explained that the idea for the discussion group came out of a climate action subcommittee formed by several members of the Land Trust Board. In Tex’s opinion, “The climate change challenge is the type of problem that seems too overwhelming for any one person to do anything about. Our hope is that through discussions about All We Can Save we will see how we can work collaboratively to bring the climate issue under control. There are actual, practical, and effective solutions available—we just need to help each other get past the barriers and get them done.”

The discussion sessions will be held in the Main Library (480 Broadway) from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on June 27, July 11, and July 18 (all Thursdays). Please plan to attend all three sessions. To reserve a spot,
